Julie Ann DeSa Lorenz
CEO
My career at OLIS began in the 1980s, which gave me access to very important resources for an aspiring author and English major: computers. I was the first student handing in work printed on a dot matrix printer.
A daughter of a scientist/ inventor, I have spent my life learning about and using technologies long before they reach the average consumer. I was a year old while my father was developing electronics and stereo amplifiers. I was six when he started coding. I was 16 when the University of Michigan purchased the first OLIS Data Acquisition/ Instrument Control System.
And, I was in my 30s when he started designing and producing spectrophotometers and I helped him write, submit, and receive his first patent on his rapid-scanning monochromator with moving intermediate slit.
My niche has always been on the marketing and communication side, not the science. Yet over the decades, I’ve facilitated countless conversations that resulted in new products. I love taking ideas to my father and pushing them through to final instruments that are sold to one or hundreds of researchers. Over the decades, conversations with you – our clients – and my father and his team have led to countless ‘brilliant breakthrough’ instruments.
I value growth and creativity over everything, and love when we can develop and a system which is exactly perfect for our newest client.
Since taking on the CEO role, I have focused efforts on OlisWorks for the HP/Agilent 8453, the CLARiTY photometers, and the CPL Solo UV/Vis and NIR, three product lines that will benefit thousands worldwide.
I am highly motivated to be as green as possible and to help you be the same. Everything we produce is “endlessly upgradable.” You never need to discard or replace an OLIS, but with almost no exception, can upcycle what you have at a fraction the cost of new. There is no downside to upcycling.
Our ‘vintage’ line – where we upcycle the fabulous original Cary, HP, Aminco, PE, and now early OLIS products – has allowed you to save hundreds of classic spectrophotometers from the landfill.
The CLARiTY line – successful with turbid as well as clear samples – minimize sample volume and consumable use as required by cuvette spectrophotometers.
We exist because every scientist deserves a spectrophotometer which focuses and accelerates his research. An OLIS does. Connect with me on LinkedIn.
