Classics & Upgrades

Do you need a best-in-class UV/Vis, UV/Vis/NIR, or IR spectrophotometry system?

Sometimes, “best” was made long ago.

Optics age very (very) slowly. Why replace them decades early? Instead, replace only what does age quickly: the electro-mechanical hardware and any primitive computerization.

We only support best-in-class equipment. This includes all OLIS spectrophotometers, plus the Cary 14/17, HP 8453, and PE 983.

With new electro-mechanical hardware and Win 11 OLIS software, these models become best-in-class, usually at a lower price point than lesser all-new alternatives.

“It should be illegal for companies to still make spectrophotometers with designed-in-obsolescence.”

Once upcycled, OLIS products are warrantied and supported as brand-new. We consider them “new,” and you can, too.

DON’T LET ANYONE TALK YOU INTO WASTING YEARS OF USE FROM A GREAT OLDER INSTRUMENT IN THEIR QUEST TO SELL YOU SOMETHING NEW.

  • OLIS 8453 UV/Vis

    Originally a classic HP 8453

    • At this price point, you cannot get a higher value UV/Vis for clear sample studies.

    • 4th decimal place sensitivity

    • 190-1100 nm, 1 nm resolution

  • OLIS 14 UV/Vis/NIR

Originally the great Cary 14 or Cary 17

    • Almost no one could afford a Cary 14 today. Its original price comes to over $150K in 2025 currency. But buying it completely upcycled from us is easily within the budget of anyone shopping today for the best UV/Vis/NIR.

    • Modernize yours or purchase complete system from us.

    • 185-2600 nm, angstrom resolution, negligible stray light

  • OLIS 983 IR

Originally the best dispersive IR by PE

    • The gold standard dispersive IR used by optical coating giants and others demanding ultimate Y-axis precision.

    • Already own a PE 983? We can upcycle it! Don't own one? Buy a complete system from us.

    • After modernization, you’ll be using OLIS Win11 software and today’s best electro-mechanical hardware.

Not sure if you should choose a diode array, CCD or scanning spectrophotometer?
