OLIS PLT 3 FAQ
Does the PLT3 come with a light source?
Yes. The excitation comes from one LED excitation source. The LED is housed in a metal tube which also seals the needed electronics with the LED. You will choose one or more LEDs at time or purchase, or later. The LED is pulsed with OLIS electronics and software, so these LED Tubes must to come from us for necessary firing and timing events.
There are LED Tubes for single LEDs. We also have an LED 7, which mounts up to seven LEDs for greatest ease in moving from one to another. This LED 7 was developed for another application but can be used in the PLT3.
What is the detector? Its range?
The detector is a Hamamatsu gated photon counter, useful 230-870 nm
Can the PLT3 do faster than microsecond time resolution?
Microsecond and slower is the acquisition rate this apparatus is designed to handle. We are not pursuing or achieving faster than microsecond performance with it.
Is it a free-standing instrument or an enhancement to another?
Yes and yes. The PLT3 can stand-alone with its dedicated OLIS computer and do phosphorescence lifetime. Yes, it can be added to the OLIS CPL spectrometers, employing the photon counter on the CPL and thus costing less than free-standing.
